It was built between 1220 and 1221 by the Moroccan dynasty Almohad . it was formerly attached to the walls of the city and connected to a similar tower called Torre de Plata. The Torre del Oro received this name because it was covered with a mixture of mortar, lime and pressed straw that shined under the sunlight with a golden hue. Hence its name
